Greeting card wording – ideas and advice

Promaxx’s personalised greetings cards allow you to produce professional-looking cards that you can imbue with your own personal touch – both in the way they are designed and the wording you include.

When it comes to your choice of words, this will depend on the occasion, who you are sending the cards to and how you want to come across.

There are so many ways to approach the wording for your cards - here’s a few ideas to get you started:

Christmas cards

Promaxx’s personalised greetings cards are perfect for Christmas when you will be sending out a number of cards to your family and friends. With Promaxx you can design once and print many but also change the wording depending on the recipient.

If you are taking a traditional approach you could choose a line or two from a favourite Christmas carol. From Jingle Bells to Silent Night there are a myriad of lyrics that create that Christmassy mood. Why not take a sentence from Charles Dickens’ famous story Christmas Carol such as “I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year”.

Staying with the traditional theme – there are many passages from the Bible that involve Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

If you want to be more light-hearted, why not try your hand at a fun Christmas limerick. If you are stuck for inspiration, there are many to choose from on the Internet.

Birthdays

There are so many ways to word a birthday card. One idea is to find a famous, or not so famous, quote about ageing that will get the recipient either smiling or thinking, or both. How about Mark Twain’s quip: “Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter” or George Burns’ saying: “You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old.”

A quick search will uncover a lot of other gems, both funny and poignant

Just to say ‘thank you’ or ‘well done’

It is said that we don’t say the things we want to say to the people we hold dear often enough. But if you struggle to find the words when face-to-face, you have the opportunity to design and print a special card at your leisure.

A nice card with a simple message like: “Thank you for being a good listener and a good friend” or “Just to say well done in your exams, we are so proud of you,” will convey all you need to say.

Professional greetings cards

Many people who run businesses like to send cards out to customers, either to celebrate a significant milestone for their company or to thank clients for their continued support, usually at Christmas. Promaxx’s greetings cards offer the perfect opportunity to take a personal approach both in the design and wording.

The level of formality or informality you choose will depend on your business and the relationship you have with your customers.
